the deal with the spam laws is that you are not allowed to send people emails SELLING anything. So, therefore if I send you an email that tells you about a series of gigs but doesn't tell you the price of entry or doesn't actually ask you to go to the gig, you should be safe under spam laws! same applies for CDs. If I put out a new CD and I send out an email to people about it, as long as the email contains only factual information i.e. for example a review of a new cd that you might be interested in knowing about" then it can't be seen as SPAM.
So if you keep out mention of money you should be cool. I think. I hope.
