After a 3 week holiday we're back on next Monday, June 12th @ The Noise Bar in Brunswick. Downbeat @ 8pm, free entry for the first 1500 people. The Noise Bar @ 291 Albert St. in Brunswick. It is right next to Brunswick train station, literally 20 metres away, and right opposite Safeway (easy parking!). The band is great, the hang is better. Visit www.melbournejazzorchestra.com for more info, pics, etc...

man, did anyone notice phil noy's solo last night - in the second set. really blew me away... nice one phil. please record.
and cam mcallister was sounding mighty fine also. sweet.
could be a really good big band - awesome players. tell me to get fucked if you like, but maybe you guys will need to rehearse some of those charts...? Seriously complex writing at times.

PS Sammo - are you in charge of charts? Im just wondering Pfft.. this has only been your what.. 4 (if that) performance? You'll get better AND PLEASE: dont sell out and play In the Mood or any of that Glenn Miller stuff. I mean.. I love Glen Miller.. when I have the mind of a 3 year old (happens quite often!).. but stick to the awesome stuff please! PLEASE!!

Hey GB, It would be awesome to rehearse, but it is really not possible.Just the task of getting that band together is quite a big one every week. We are trying to stick to our guns and only play good, challenging charts. It will take time to find our sound, but there are many positives to focus on at the moment. Sam,Christophe and I started this band cause we where sick of people (including us!) whinging about how bad it was playing in big bands (too loud, bad charts). We wanted to try something positive. I must give credit to Hugh Harvey on drums. He is one of the best and easiest drummers I have worked with. He reads incredibly well, and is always keen to learn and play. He makes a huge comntribution to the band that often goes unnoticed due to all the fine solo's!!! One of the main things with this band is that every one is really respectful to each other, which makes it a really nice enviroment to try and tackle these charts in. Phil was a revelation on Monday, incredible! Thanks for coming down GB! Next gig is Monday 26th.

Gb, seconding what Gianni said, definately understand what you're saying, we'd love to rehearse if we thought it was workable. Right now we're losing hair just trying to get all the players and music in the same place at the same time.
Lex, Gianni and I pretty much split responsibility chart wise (if anything goes wrong it's his fault!!), but I've been in an unhealthy phase of buying charts. Not good for bill payment! Yeah, hopefully we'll get better the more we play together. Trust me, so long as I live there will be no Glenn Miller!
Yeah, Phil is a monster on the saxophone. If it's the McConnell arrangement of All The Things you were talking about Gb, yeah I stood at the front impersonating a conductor giddily smiling throughout the whole solo.
