Nothing wrong with Sinatra and Jobim in itself, but I think the general tone of the show was a little less than we've come to expect. Sinatra and Jobim is a decent album, but even in Jobim's catalogue there are many far better albums with much better grooves. Sadly in Australia bossa nova is rarely treated with the respect real bossa deserves, and very few here come close to nailing the groove.

Oh dear, Glen and Alimcg. Swearing and ranting turns me right off. And what does 'better' mean? I'm definitely from the 20th century and aren't I lucky?! I've heard almost every jazz style, band and player - many of them contemporaneously. Everyone plays to the best of their ability at the time and, often, recordings are made without the most appropriate partner(s) for the particular 'star' musician/singer. The recordings we hear of the jazz giants represent a tiny fraction of their total playing time. We don't hear their down nights, and we probably have never heard their best nights. We can't 'judge' players on the basis of the few notes we hear played over and over again. And who are we to judge, anyway? I think it's best to listen respectfully to everyones efforts, congratulate them on having the guts to get out and play, and learn what we can from them. Everyone has something to teach us.

yeah ok 1/10th of the music played was stuff I would want to hear NOW. A lot of it was good music but most of it was so safe a la mainstream old stuff you know bargain rack smoothe jazz cds for ten bucks a pop so i am going back to Dig Jazz til Mal comes home which i hope is pretty soon
