Hello beautiful Melbourne peeps! I am joining you in the cold but wonderful city of Melbourne as of Saturday July 2 (oh yes, my day has come!) For the first time in 18months, I will treat myself to coffee - any number of short blacks on Lygon Street (dream dream dream FINALLY!) What I was asking was what Jazz is happening where until I leave on the Thursday July 6. Its no matter if you cant assist me, as the wonderful bassist Barney Loveland will be taking me about too. But I was hoping for a bit of a heads up as to who's gigging where and when. As I am deprived and depraved of jazz (please note: I AM from Brisbane!!), Id really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance! Youre friendly postwhore, Lady Lex *teehee ;D

Lygon Street is for tourists these days stay well away from any street that needs hustlers to get you to come in to their restaurants a lot of bad places to eat there now and avoid Acland street too brunsiwck street is almost as bad. Check out Smith street & Gertrude St in Fitzroy, check out Yarraville, check out Carlisle street in Balaclava. There are still some good palces in Lygon street but even Brunettis is too too too mega much these days . The lanes in the CBD have some great places. the best Coffees in Melboure is at Breadwell in Flinders lane near the Hyatt or Laurent in the Little Collins or the Wall in Balaclava or Riverland underneath Fed Square on the river . NEVER get coffee or food in Fed Square itself. Never ever get coffee in any place that serves coffee with a logo on the disposable coffee cup, these places are to keep Americans and other tourists out of our good cafes.

Good call Glen ! Good coffee in Degraves St too, if you're in the city. As for gigs, Bennetts has some good ones coming up (Peter knight, Bennetts Big Band, Blake Willner, Keller-Murphy-Browne, etc) ; I think Jamie's doing Cafe 303 in northcote Wednesdays, Julien Wilson at Sosa's on Thursdays.........Paul Williamson at the Rainbow Mondays.........heaps of others, depends what you're after. oh, and Mark Sholtez is doing Bennetts in a couple of weeks

Oehlers you come from WA therefore you know NADA about coffee. Suede has better than average coffee that is all and their food is below average. Dont go hanging out with JO Ladylex

Yeah, thanks for introducing me to Atomica, Ali! Had a great coffee there only this arvo. But the people working there seemed rather depressed. I hope to find a sunnier disposition next time, for their sake if not mine!
