She'd like that.
I suppose the thing about organising festivals is, it has to be done well. Poor little Adelaide has suffered greatly in that department. The Glenelg Jazz Festival used to have great acts booked, from all over the place, but they charged too little, and didn't make money. Then, they charged too much without bringing in as much good stuff, and didn't make money. Then they folded.
The East End Jazz Festival wasa nice idea, but too many bands and most of them didn't see any money. Also, too many stages in a small space, spilling sound over to each other. Can't have an a cappella jazz choir on at the same time as a high school big band. And then, unfortunately, last time it got totally rained out, and didn't make money. Adelaide in October fairly unpredicatable that way. I know there's not much they could do about the weather, but I would call that a pretty big risk.
Not saying I could do any better, of course. But I wonder how well these things were thought through?

Hm... does it come down to "Accountability".. ? Who were they accountable to?
For example: Student Unions are not really accountable to anyone.. hence the terrible rorts that occur. Im not saying that rorting occurs here.. but you know: Power Corrupts. As a human, you cant help it. *shrugs shoulders.
Its a terrible shame.

Yup. I was dead honest though.. sorta. Unless giving the students free beer isnt honest? Ask Nil Phoy.. he'd tell you if i was bad. The behaviour around me was deplorable however. All the students money to waste.. *shakes head. Ive been traumatised by it all as a result. There goes my decline into politics And THATS the issue. Accountability. Its all good to produce a budget - but to enforce it? You need someone with balls. You really do.

Another thought: Im not big on accounting firms. But things like BigBrother (good grief heehee) use Ernst and Young to assist them in their accountablity: Is there a major centre that deals with accounting only that could make event organisers accountable? EG Govt grants govt grant (haha) They appoint a major accounting firm as the faciliatator The lucky recipient of the govt grant produces a budget and the appointed firm writes the necessary cheques. Anyway: I hope CD sales are going really well Simon. I cant seem to find any in Brisbane yet - but we tend to be quite a few years behind anyway.
