Ive just realized.. I cant stand Jazz in a concert setting - Jazz recitals and all that. Hey – I love the musos and their musicianship – don’t get me wrong. But I dont really like being in a concert hall type thing with no access to alcomohol, feeling anxious that Im being supported by a chair rather than a bar and being ‘forced’ (sotospeak) to stare at the front and expecting my silly body to sit still for a few hours (Im always full of nervous energy.. it aint good restricting me to 1mx1m!). I love interactive jazz performances.. like the kind you find in bars ;D Jazz grew up in the beerhalls (sic) of Harlem after all. I also find Im far more receptive to the nuances of Jazz with some champagne or wodka under my belt.
Ideally, I love my jazz in a bar with people’s voices mingling with the lovely twisting melodies, propping up the bar and a cocktail delight in front of me. I love the intimacy of it; being embraced up close and personal and even being able to stare directly into the musos’ faces as they improv. But of course.. if a Herbie Jazz Recital is on the menu, Ill glady take it without a peep. Its just a thought though.. does the environment reflect upon the music at all?
So.. How do you take your jazz?

I like a room with good sight lines and good sound from most parts of the room. A quiet attentive audience and alcohol on demand. I save the discussions for between sets or at the end. I'm there to listen to the band not everyone around me discussing their day. The first one that comes to mind for me is SIMA's headquarters, the sound lounge. Also enjoy the studio of the SOH, the Freedman Awards were excellent, sound was great thanks to Ross A'Hearn I think.

He was a trumpet player, a drug addict, a womaniser and a very bad painter.

Goes to you f*ckarse. Stop trolling after me. Form an opinion on other people's posts thanks.
Just cos you feel the need to champion Frank's cause does not mean you need to keep chasing me. Im flattered.. I really am. I have psychos begging for my sexual favours all the time.. but hey. My price is simply too high for you.

Do make sure you enter that jazz writing competition, won't you. Between your embarrassingly abundant gift for language, your clear and incisive expression, and your mindless enthusiasm for the already familiar and categorisable, you ought to do very well indeed.
