But I'd simply want to roll over and die if players like Chindamo and Isaacs couldn't give us their all. I mean Joe doesn't even get warmed up till chorus no. 24. and god forbid, if he stopped before then we'd have to have a bass solo....

Is that a sucking action Captain? haha Sometimes, and Im sorry, because I really do love long improv solos too, but musos can be quite self indulgent and play without caring at all about the connection between them and their audience. Ive often felt isolated from particular musos - Ive never enjoyed their music (tho I love them as people). And even tho Ive been around them for some 10 years.. their style has never changed. This isnt applicable to everyone of course. Just the odd muso - who obviously needs to develop gee.. thats coming out totally wrong! hehehe But yeh: Im happy to listen to a Parlie Charker solo (think: Chaka Khan's Night in Tunisia.. OH MY FRIGGIN GAWD! HERBIE AND PARLIE doin a 46 second lick together!!) and love it for what it is. The art of the vingette (pfft. Im terribubble at spelling) is indeed an artform. One Im never likely to achieve.. but hell. I appreciate it when I hear it.
