Mark Murphy's first gig of his Australian tour at Ormond Hall in Melbourne was sensational. He started off with some jazz Haikus, some excellent humour. Both sets in fact full of humour, he is still a strong vocalist and musician and the audience just went wild.
With a true jazz audience too, i.e. quiet with applause at the end of solos (wow). Some beautiful moving ballads, some great blues with so much space given to the musicians Mark Fitzgibbon (piano), Ben Robertson (Bass) and Andrew Gander (drums) - so many jazz people spotted in the audience and everyone had fun, yep, you could say it was an uplifting performance. The band was a perfect trio for Mr Murphy and his quite unique style. He was impressed with the band and the band was clearly digging the gig never seen Ben Robertson bop around so much before.
When Mr Murphy hits your town, go see him.

ABC have recorded loads of the gigs for Classic Fm and Radio National so you can get to here them which is a good thing. I know they recorded Mr Murphy but I don't know which other ones, I think they did loads at Bennetts Lane too.

Heard the same thing about the gig, very spirited! Also heard the same thing about Nina's set, kind of insincere or something like that.

Does that mean if I come to Bennetts Lane none of you will spit in my drink when I'm not looking?
