MIKE NOCK TRIO – BACKGROUND
Since his first recordings with the 'Three-Out' Trio in 1960-61, jazz pianist/composer Mike Nock has remained at the forefront of Australian jazz and continues to delight audiences worldwide. His extensive background of experience in a variety of genres with the world¹s top musicians plus his large catalogue of recordings as a leader combine to give his live performances a rarely heard depth and breadth. The current Mike Nock trio, a classic jazz ensemble that embraces the past as it simultaneously looks to the future, features two extraordinary young musicians and builds on the tradition established since his 1985 return to Australia, of introducing some of the country¹s most exciting young jazz talents to a wider public. Bassist/composer Mike Majkowski and drummer James Waples are young jazz masters, not yet 25 years of age. Both are outstanding examples of the high level of creative talent emerging in Australia today. Both are graduates of the Sydney Conservatorium and have played in Mike's groups since January 2003. The trio came together on 1 January 2006 and are currently planning their debut CD.
