Where does one start?
It was an absolutely incredible showcase of musicians - Australian, Japanese, New Zealand, German.. magnificent
Thank you Mark for a wonderful weekend of truly sensational jazz.
From the Japanese Australian Jazz Orchestra - WOW! My eyes have been truly opened. I really did have to contain myself during the performance (sorry Mark - LOL)
Simon Barker - you made me think there was a lovely woman at your feet, the way you treated your drum kit Your drumming is a true aural delight. If there were 2 folds of cloth in this orchestra, you were the seam. I bow to your incredible-ness
Phil Slater, the incredible jazz pianist, the monster jazz bass player, Matt Keegan, your electronic shimazen - OMG! *drool!
your wonderful guitarist (sorry I didnt get names!!!) .. such an inspiration! The terraced entries if musos was just brilliant.. a pricktease (sorry for such words) for the 2nd set which had everything anyone could possibly want. JAJO was a true inspiration - wonderful original compositions and a sign to me that Jazz definitely has plenty of scope to work within.
James Sherlock, Ken Edie and Steve Newcombe - what an incredible combo! James alone is enough to send me into a frenzy but with Ken and wonderfully balanced by Steve - aaaah. I was transported to Nirvana.
Mark, Megan Washington, Jack Thorncraft and good ole Paul Huddo Hudson - what a fabulous mix! Megan - youre voice is superb. Truly. We will be so sad to lose you to Melbourne - but so happy for you too. And Mark - your playing is just like eating banana cake with plenty of creamed icing I was admiring your forearms quite alot actually!
I heard Mike Nock went down superbly (couldnt be there myself.. *sigh).
The JazzGroove Mothership Orchestra was OUT OF THIS WORLD!! literally! haha It was brilliant. With 17 performers on one stage.. *sigh It was truly amazing. Big Band is my favourite jazz genre, so understandably, I was in fits of delight (again!). Evan Mannell was truly astonishing. Loved the way he kept the band together - his toms and highats made me want to eat cake. James Muller.. wow. One of the few guitarists I really enjoy. You played so superbly. It was great to hear you live in a big band too. Nice to admire your selmer Mark vi Bari too Nick Boyd. Each muso was simply a motherf*cker. It is thence appropriate that the tune MF was played on the evening!
Thanks to Brett Cheney for such crisp sound. The Steinway Concert was wonderful (Thanks to Theme and Variations) and thanks for John Webb for a job well done. And thanks for the Powerhouse too! What a great venue What a fabulous weekend.
