Hey LL, can't resist the temptation........do you now think that a signed contract should actually mean something ? (Unless of course it was signed on Diana Krall's behalf..............?) It only means as much as those who are beholden to it are willing to push it. Further to this: perhaps you could email your disgust and disappointment to celiezer@netspace.net.au from themusic.com.au This sort of thing really gets my goat! grrr

Captain, your mistake was working at dizzy's in the first place.
I remember when they first opened, the owners promises that (and I quote) "every musician working in my club will get paid at least 100 dollars".
there are plenty of good venues with pianos: two rooms at bennetts, rechabite hall, the czech club, the opera bar etc. where the sound is better, the room is better and you don't have to put up with treatment as bad as what you experienced (and may i say that this is not really that unusual for that venue). this, not to mention that even if the gig did happen you would probably still walk out of there with less money in your pocket than when you arrived (once they took their cut of the door and you bought a couple of drinks, paid for parking, petrol, train ticket or tax etc.)
Venues matter little, as the essential contract is one between punter and musician, and normally a venue closing is not a tragedy. In the case of dizzy's it's a blessing. It has been diluting the quality of melbourne jazz venues long enough.

Well, to be fair, the update is that Roger reimursed us $100 each plus 20 bucks for the bandleaders phone calls.

That would make it the best paid gig you could have ever got there.
