Ok, given the recent complaints about Albert's choices for the Crown-MIJF, I thought I'd ask you all who you would book for a festival if you were to be Artistic Director. Let's have an International list, and a local one if you like. Maybe Mr Jackson can give us an idea of an approximate budget?

If I was artistic director, I would keep my tenure brief. Then hand over the reigns to my biggest critics. That way the festival's aesthetic doesn't get bogged down by the opinions of a chosen few.
After a few years of this broad approach I'm sure more artisitic diversity would be celebrated. And more locals would get a gig.....

I think Sol Trujillo is the obvious choice for artistic director. He could crush the festival down to nothing, blame government regulation and then get a big bonus.

Oh Mr Jackson, you do have a point. Jazz and budget don't really mix, but lets dream. What do you imagine is the budget for the Crown Jazz Festival? Surely they must have some money to bring out the names in question, or does Albert have enough money to pay for it himself? Maybe he got a big payout for inventing Acid Jazz and he wants to put it back into the community he loves? I wish I could buy my own festival, then again, if I had that money I'd just go see them all where they live.

I'd hire Gideon and Ferella to run it for me and take a vacation to Alaska while they did all the hard work, then I'd come back and take all the credit, or maybe not.

Why do I get the impression no-one wants to step up to the plate and give some opinions? If you're all so critical, why don't you come up with some templates? Or are you all happy avoiding the issue through humour?

Dear Pettman, thanks for the advice about God. Never thought of that one before. Better get busy!
Since you are most likley named for the great French farting cabaret guy does that mean you are really Fartman? and if that is the case are you reincarnated from the great OJF poster who died not long after Ironguts, whose name was cartman? and if you are... welcome back mate we missed ya.

If money was no object: (2 shows each in a small venue i.e. Bennett's lab)
Locals (of course, in no particular order):
Andrea Keller Quartet Scott Tinkler Quartet Grabowsky Trio Niko's TD5 AAO Oehlers doing his two drummer band Adam Simmons doing his conduction thing Leigh Barker Quintet Jon Delaney Trio The Natives Big Fela Vada Paul Williamson's Hammond Combo Phil Noy Trio Geoff Hughes Band Michelle Nicole ...some more crazy free shit ...some more hard swinging shit ...a kicking big band ...et al
Internationals:
Josh Roseman Matthew Shipp Branford Quartet Jarrett Trio Ned Goold Peter Weniger Rosenwinkel Wayne Shorter Quartet Monder Connick Jr. Quartet
...and that's just off the top of my head what I would like to hear right now. I'm sure the lists could be a lot longer.

thank you Marksiks for your input, sorry it was under such pressure. Some truly great artists there. I did notice though that you would have a purely international festival, somewhat different to the cry of 'locals' we hear so much of.

Oh, by the way Glen, do you take offense at my mention of God? I'm sorry if I don't have the imagination you do to come up with new interesting phrases. This one just means something to me. I hope this is ok with you. Maybe I could say something negative of Miles, or just try to be a smart alec? I'll work on something for you.
