Man I had no idea he was even sick, feeling a little ignorant. I saw him twice in Toronto with Hancock/Hargrove.... was fantastic (though wasn't so into the EWI stuff). First show with Brian Blade and John Pattitucci was out of this world. What a loss. Rest In Peace Michael.

Read a few of the obits on Brecker and I think it's good that some of the media acknowledge his contribution to music and bone marrow banks. I felt, as always most of these leave out so much, like the very essence of the person. People aren't just what they are famous for. An obit is a summary of a person's career; usually the main achievements, sure, but that seems shallow to me. I guess there is always the biography. These are definitions of 'obituary' with comps of Google: Definitions of obituary on the Web: a notice of someone's death; usually includes a short biography wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn An obituary is a notice of the death of a person, usually published in a newspaper, written or commissioned by the newspaper (rather than written by relatives), and usually including a short biography. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obituary Obituary is a death metal band from Tampa, Florida. They started their career as Xecutioner in 1984 and still remain a very influential band in the genre. Their 1990 release Cause of Death is hailed as a seminal album in the genre, and vocalist John Tardy is recognized as one of the first vocalists to use an abnormally low growl (compared to the screechy growls used by predecessors Death and Possessed). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obituary_(band) an announcement of a person's death, giving details which may include information about the deceased's origins, biographical data, survivors, religion, and burial information; usually both a primary and secondary source. www.arkansasresearch.com/g-gloss.htmlA final summation of our lives that, for most of us, occupies about three inches of space in what will shortly become cage liner for your neighbor's parakeet. www.springboard4health.com/notebook/dict_o.htmlA brief notice of the death of a person, particularly a newspaper notice, which usually lists the name of the deceased, the age, and a more detailed and lengthy biographical sketch than a Death Notice. Newspapers may or may not charge for publishing obituaries. See Death Notice. www.cemeteries.org/glossary.aspinteresting, but sad. This world seems a sad place at the moment.
