I heard a rumour that Adrian is leaving the MIJF, I really, really hope it is not true. Please can anyone shed light on the subject? Adrian are you out there? Did someone poach you for something else? Does anyone know? You looked pretty happy at Bennetts last week, so maybe you have some exciting news for us? If it is true I will be very, very sad to hear it. I hope it is just a silly rumour.

Dear Prince Ronald Is AJ going? Is it confirmed? If it is I can't think that anyone I know of in this country could do a better job than Adrian. As for giving someone else a go, Kenny, if it ain't broke why does it need fixing? Adrian does a brilliant job with Wangaratta and has always done a great job with the MIJF. The MAIN problem with the MIJF has been lack of funding for administration. I am very dissapointed that none of my pals on OJF have expressed that they have noticed how much AJ has done for Australian jazz! Are you all hoping secretly to get the job ? There is no jazz festival in the world like Wang or MIJF for eg that draws such big crowds with so much home talent. That's due to the excellent musicians in Australia but also to AJ for putting it all together and not relying on Big Names from overseas (yawn).

I'm with you on the Big name thingo, though. In a rather nice way, the restricted budgets of Wangaratta and MIJF mean the international artists we do see are invariably more interesting than might other wise be the case. There's an interesting discussion about this going on here: forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread.php?t=4718As for the job: They couldn't afford me. Or should that be: I couldn't afford them (think: Big Fucking Mortgage)

This guy might be useful - he has a few million and a bass-playing son and a serious jazz habit:

Kenny: we know you are too sensible to even think about taking on a thankless task like that. I knew you were jiving us, I love the pics too are they all from google or do you get them from newslimited picture desk?.
I agree that we get to see some great artists who are not Huge Yanky Names, e.g. Jukka Perko (ok, I am sure the spelling is wrong) and lots of great stuff at both festivals.
But I still wanna know if it is true that AJ is leaving. Someone reading this forum must know the answer to that?
Speaking of Murdoch are you friendly with the mad but wonderful Adrian Tame?

CLINT: Too busy being Mayor of Monterey now if you wanna see a corny jazz festival check ours out. The graphics for the posters over the last five years make Wangaratta graphics circa 1997 seem extremely progressive. Yes my boy plays bass, but he gets really embarrassed at gigs when people mention my name for some reason. He should be grateful he doesn't have Arnie for a father. Kids, these days! MONKEY: I run jazz fesitval in northern hemisphere & this year we featuring well known jazz artists such as Chaka Kahn and Lenny Kravitz, because we couldn't get Madonna or Beyonce.
We like this cool style of improvisation, but really we don't mind who plays as long as someone else pays for them to come over, like maybe your Australian govenrment. But if artists are US, we pay Big for famous Jazz Names, some actually worth hearing. Some should have been retired thirty years ago but who cares the public don't know the difference. So forgetaboudit.
Mainly I prefer invite people I can forece to hang out with me so I can write in our memoirs how much they love me. We have to call our festival Jazz event otherwise we don't get enough government funding to pay for MFM.
(Memoir fodder musicians)
enough silliness good night!

Mrs Horne Bonet you are so blatantly transparent when you post under stupid names, but keep up the good work coz it keeps me entertained, trying to guess which ones are you or Kenny or the rest of you. You and KW are both funny, sometimes, and more importantly refreshingly disrespectful.
We like that in a jazz fan.
I haven't heard anything about the big A leaving, sorry.

Vicki: I just roam around on google (images). Yes, I know Adrian, but only slightly - we have had a few conversations about the Grateful Dead. He's a Dead completist - that's about as mad as you can get. The word I heard is that AJ is leaving BOTH MIJF and Wangaratta to join the US golf Tour. Meanwhile, as I'm just starting a gargantuan 12-hour day in the orifice, I may just mosey over to the what are you listening to thread and list - strictly for my own entertainment, of course - today's listening pleasures.
