Bit ruff i'n it?...
I read the article and though the writing was a bit shite in places, for the general reader it offered a rare piece on an extended personal response to a jazz recording....even if he is mate of Rob's at least it has some personal perspective on this and other serious jazz recordings made here....
At least it may give an impression to the non specialist that there is more to Australian jazz than James Morrison...

Agree with some of your points, but do you think any reader not already aware that there is more to Australian jazz than Morrison would have got past the first para Aka? My guess is; not very likely.

Not the best writing but maybe the worst, the guy is full of shit and I wouldn't believe a thing he writes. This is no comment on the album in question, but the writer is a definately a romantic uninformed wanker.

I couldn't give a fuck what the guy thinks of me, though I know you jest, I'm sure he'd hate what I play, whatever he said, good or bad, I would take with less than a grain of salt.

I've shat so much in the past 2 weeks I think I have 2 arseholes now,,,,,,does that mean I can have 2 opinions?

Yes its badly written.Yes its poorly researched. Yes its yet another example of someone given major press space to wax lyrical about something that they are not expert in. Yes its a good plug for the Burkster who is realistic enough to know the importance of pumping up ones profile in this arid musical enironment. And no - its not cool because there are a great many more deserving projects,dedicated artists and hard working groups out there that could do with some press like this....also - this is shoddy work for an academic.

Many academics can't write for an audience beyond their peers. And why write 200 words when 3000 will do? I have been translating academic verbosity for many years now, lucky me.
