I must be bored. I just had a look at our member list, and was very disturbed by the very high number of members who have never posted. 0 posts. That's to say nothing of the very high number of single digit posters. Are they jazz forum voyeurs or something? Come on, out wit' ya!

But seriously now - you know, alimcg, I am one of the so called chickens - and I'll admit it, an OJF voyeur. Living OS it's interesting checking out what some people in the Australian jazz community are yacking about, where they're playing, how much they hate Americans etc. For the most part I haven't felt that compelled to post - people seem to always have all sides of a debate covered already. Also having seen how some of these forums (sorry, I can't bring myself to write fora), blogs or whatever seem to be the place for serious venting, heated argument, flaming and sometimes descending to the level of character assassination, it's not that appealing for me to participate. I'm all for a good debate, but I don't necessarily find these forums a great way to communicate - people are too often taken the wrong way with an disproportionate response resulting. Without the body language or vocal inflections of face to face debate you lose the ability to sense you've stepped over the line, adjust your argument, clarify your remark etc. so as to ensure that a person isn't too offended or that you haven't been taken the wrong way. I've seen this happen in many similar situations, and after seeing it happen on OJF resulting in various people abandoning it for certain periods of time - among them vicki, ironguts, kenny, cartman and the forum creator himself - I'm not always driven to participate personally.
However, I think it's great that it exists and that people take time to regularly post. It obviously works for them and it's surely good for the community on many levels. It's great to see the fairly recent return of ironguts, kenny, vicki and even a post from Mark Isaacs - I like seeing the irreverent Australian humour represented here and it's great to have some way of getting a look into what's happening on the scene there.
Maybe I'll try to post more regularly, but for the most part, I like to watch. P.S. - this makes me more than a single digit poster - so I guess this thread isn't even directed at me now. I'd insert a smilie now, but I hate those fuckin' things.

aa, it's great to see you posting here. I've known you to be a member for a long time and "seen" you lurking many a time. I miss you around here (here being Australia) I suppose a few people have worked out who you are. I won't out you. Oh, and I also won't mention your identity

Maybe aa is his credit rating? Alcoholics Anonymous (that could be anyone in the jazz community - except me apparently)? I've had my suspicions and thoughts on aa's true identity, but we'll leave it at that.

credit rating - I wish alcoholics anonymous - I think you have to be abstaining to be a member Alan Alda - I'm not that articulate adam ant - we wear a different brand of make-up
member of the "aluminum association"? 2/3 shareholder in the US equivalent of the NRMA?
.. I think you've worked it out from my previous posts, and by triangulating from my obvious familiarity with Messrs Issacs and Ironguts.
I don't really care either way about revealing my "identity", but do I really have to call out my own name ... like 'guts does in those special, private moments?
