Not unless the seppos suddenly, somehow, become a LOT less insular.
You'd be amazed how many of them think that Australia is one of those countries in Europe ; or don't realise they can't call you at 2am cos we have a different time zone ; or think we speak pretty good English.

Had a really interesting conversation with an American friend the other night, who, when I first met them, did think Aus was in Europe. But i found it interesting that nobody in America knew that the Aussies were in Iraq with them (which on my part is a good thing), but it does seem to negate the fact that Johnny is there to suck up to the yanks....nobody gives a shit! Off the subject a bit - and everyone might have heard it already, but when I was in Perth we used to say that a muso on the dole was a member of the John Howard bigband

Then again, with our current Prime Miniature, the less people in other countries know about Australia, the better..............

When I was there in 04 certainly many people I met had heard of her - people seemed curious as to whether she was popular or not......

I disagree. Anecdotal evidence tells me that sending stuff to the glossy mags is not much different than having a CD bonfire in yer backyard. Online is the way to go.

Kenny, I remember Barney McAll telling me about meeting a Down Beat reviewer some years ago : he had a huge pile of review cds there, he told Barney to feel free to take some cos he'd never get through them all.......one of them was mark simmonds' Fire.

Often it takes a seemingly extremist perspective to upset the applecart and motivate things. Id dare suggest this book is implementing reverse psychology. But one does have to wonder. When the top Dance (and I mean Electronic Djing type of music that people generally refer to as that Doof Doof Doof stuff) Album in Europe is of Miles Davis’ Silent Way set to house (dance) beats: Polish DJ Duo Skalpel “Konfusion” Another top album is of a slew of jazz artists (EG Horace Silver) set to hip hop lines and house beats and the kids are dancing crazily to them on the dancefloor at every dance club like theres no tomorrow: Jazzanova The Remixes The interesting note is these artists are Central Europeans – the Europeans from the bloc countries who had only had nationalist jazz to work from, before the wall came down and allowed then access to a greater part of the west. Their ‘obssession’ with jazz (then the most western music they were allowed to listen to without being considered a political danger to the nation) has led them to the NuJazz movement. I believe Jazz has moved – but its no longer a postcode. It has instead gone underground and returned to the streets. Which is where it started. Full circle I say!
