The National Jazz Awards this year will feature Drums. Entries are now open, to musicians up to 35 years of age (as at 1 November 2004). Entries close on July 15. Info is on www.wangaratta-jazz.org.auEntry forms should be out & about (venues, CD stores, etc) this week ; if you want one mailed out to you, send your address to ajjazz@bigpond.net.au Ten finalists will play at the TAC Wangaratta Festival Of Jazz on the weekend of 29 October - 1 November. Prizes will be : $6000 & a recording session for 'Jazztrack' on ABC Classic FM $3000 $1500 The band for the finals will comprise David Theak (saxophone), Matt McMahon (piano) & Brett Hirst (drums). Judges will be Mike Nock, Ted Vining & Allan Browne.

Are you sure you didn't mean Brett Hirst (bass).
Last time I looked, he was a bass player.
Or is every drummer going to be forced to do the Jamie Oehlers double drummer thing?
