Well,,,, I went to the official Jam session last night at crown. Chris McNulty does a set from 11 then at about 12.30 it's open for a Jam. To lay the ground, the rhythm section is good, real good. The drummer is of the Brian Blade ilk and the Bass player swings like hell. There is piano, guitar and open for horns. There was a vibe building in the first 20 mins as some internationals turned up, particularly Jens Winter and his band. The drummer from Jens' band got up on stage at 1 on the invite of Chris only to be physically dragged off stage by the stage manager. He then exited back stage quite irate stating this is a joke. Then next 15 mins were spent with people trying to get up to play. I got up to do a duet with the young hot-shot Blade guy ( I don't know their names yet sorry ) and we were abruptly told " No music after 1". As it turns out, some union or else rules mean that the session goes from 12.30 till 1!! Tools down!!!!! "What a joke" is right. Here we are at an international festival with the guys hanging to play and they were treated rudely and with no respect and were left with little regard for the place. Luckily George Coleman Jnr was playing at the Blue Diamond so I took them down there for a hang and to chill a bit. Way to go Crown Jazz.
