KMA, Sydney jazz, 1980's...

hi peoples,
awhile ago some kind soul made me a copy of a double LP by KMA (keys music association) called 'March of the Five Limbs' from 1982. KMA was a collective of young musicians from Sydney in the early 80's.
In their own words:

"The KMA is motivated by our members love of their art. The aims of the association are the performance, publication and promotion of original Australian improvised music through concerts, broadcasts and publication of recordings."

Somewhat modeled on the principles of the AACM (Association for Advancement of Creative Musicians) from Chicago I would imagine, I really have no idea how long this lasted for in Sydney, how active it was apart from this record etc...I remember there is something in John Clare's book about KMA but I don't have it with me. Anyway there is some fantastic music on the LP, really amazing stuff where jazz was meeting rock, funk etc but not at all "fusion" sounding. Also the fact they were collectively organising things interests me also.

So! Who was there anyone? More info please!!!
In particular I am curious what happened to guitarists Mike Tinney and Dave Rae who both contribute some amazing playing...

in any case he plays some amazing stuff on this LP, did you see any of these groups at that time AJ?
also was there similar collectives in Melbourne?

probably the Melb counterpart was the Melb Jazz Co-op, although that was really Martin, rather than a collective like KMA. I did get to see soem of those bands like The Benders, Freeboppers & Great White Noise, mainly when they came down to play some Co-op gigs. As the album shows, there was a lot of talent coming out of Sydney at the time, definitely a lot of energy !
