How much did they waste on that shit gator? Must be 20 to 25 bucks each? That's about the VCA budget gone for the year. No idea... but I'm comforted to know that the VCA orchestra will have some saxophones in the band..seems fitting.. anyway, what do you call a bunch of Basset Horns? A pack? A litter?A gaggle? A disappointment? C.mon Guts your wiki-ed up on 'em.

A bunch of bassetthorns is/are called a fuckoff, in the orchestra they are known as the fuckoff section, usually the Conductor will say something like "let's have you fuckoff all together?". When they do play something together it's called a surprise and if they sound good it's called a miracle. Love the Wik!

Now that's more like it. Someone apparently hacked your profile and started cracking squeaky-clean jokes. I was worried for a moment or two.

We could also have a look at the money that goes to sport, ouch. Not saying it shouldn't, just that there is heaps there. Why don't you just apply for some funding for your golf game?

I get your point Shaggaz but the issue is the balance of funding, then if there were less orchestras improvised music could still get more. Yes it's great when the programing is interesting but the majority of it isn't. The MSO does so much total shit, Meatloaf, Kiss etc as well as just plain lame crap. Nothing wrong with orchestral music, problem is orchestral culture, and it's not just an Australian problem. Anyone read Norman Lebrecht 'Who Killed Classical Music'?? So much money is totally wasted on orchestral bureaucracies egomaniacal conductors and as guts points out lame fucking crap and the opera scene is even worse. Should send everyone home then start again I reckon.

It might interest you all to know, given the many interesting posts on this thread, two things. Firstly, I will be attending 2020 Summit, and as the only practitioner of jazz, improvised music, or whatever the hell you want to call it, I would welcome any and all suggestions to take to the court of Queen Cate. Feel free to email me on paulgrab@ozemail.com.au Also, and somewhat ironically, I have been asked to launch Peter's essay, which I read a few weeks ago, at Bennetts on April 22. This will take the form of a 'conversation'. As I have quite a few issues with the substance of the essay, some of which have coincidentally surfaced in comments on this thread, it might amuse some of you to be there. Then again, it might not. Cheers.

All these honours, giving new meaning to the word 'dubious'. But you must feel quite the elder statesman!

It seems weird they're organizing a summit 12 years in advance, odd world.
I''l try make that launch paulgrab, sounds like fun to me. Is it a night thing? Is PR gonna be there? Is he gonna sing too? Love to hear you guys duet. Seriously though, a conversation? Does this mean you guys will be chatting? Will it be an open chat with questions etc, that could be interesting indeed.
You can count on me to heckle.

It costs nothing and if you stick around to hear Zoe and the Buttercups, you will get a discount on entry to that gig.
