Happy Birthday Mark, welcome to that exclusive club, the benefits.....great advice from more experienced members on the best artifical aids to get you through the next 50 years.
There's only one drink to celebrate a birthday of this importance...champagne!!! (oops I meant sparkling wine)
Congratulations Mark J & V

Thanks for the good wishes and interest! The weekend on the Gold Coast with my parents and brother was great, except Jetstar nearly ruined it by cancelling the flight I was on, on the day. Of the two alternatives they offered one was far too late in the day blowing out the lunch that was planned and the other was leaving in 90 minutes. At 8:35am Jewel was still in bed and neither of us had packed and both were in night attire. ONE HOUR later we had checked in having dressed, packed (admittedly only for overnight), driven to the airport (anything up to 45 mins from our place), left the car in long term parking and taken the bus to the terminal. The Jetstar computer closes down for check-in at precisely 30 mins before, we made it by 15 seconds, the consultant's fingers were moving on her computer like it was a Chopin etude. We had lunch on the Saturday in my brother's restaurant www.taboon.com.au and stuffed ourselves silly. On the Sunday (actual birthday) we had lunch at Mum and Dad's and of course she made sure I had all the things I like to eat (eg Pacific oysters). My Dad played me his arrangement of Speak Low on the guitar, he is nearly 80 and still practices 2 hours a day. Then we flew back and had dinner with our daughter (Japanese restaurant). I had 3 shots of Stoli in a row afterwards, that was it for alcohol (sorry Iron, I know, piss-weak). The party with Sydney musos is this Saturday. Will report back. And I guess July 6 could be the Melbourne party of sorts (after the show?). That's a pretty good 50th birthday season, June 19 - July 6.

That is a huge birthweek - well done. Jetstar are a disgrace - I have banned them.

How in Christ's name do you put wasabi on a pea? Wasabi peas are a delightful snack, check your local Asian grocery store. The peas are dried and very crunchy and coated in dried wasabi paste. Yum.

Hey Mark
You are really doing this birthday thing with style. I am impressed and I think there should definately be a Melbourne celebration.
I read the menu of your brother's place (yummers). Does your family have a connection with Egypt?

Hey Mark I read the menu of your brother's place (yummers). Does your family have a connection with Egypt? No, Iraq. Forebears from Baghdad on both parents' sides. Although the family of my step-grandmother (in whose lap Iron suggested I should have vomited) was from Egypt.

will buy you a drink on 6 July, Mark. Tea or fruit juice if you insist, but may spike it with Voddie if feeling naughty Thanks for the vodka, wishes and chat in the lane. A wonderful way to end a birthday season now declared offically over.

Megan purred me onto the stage as usual. And breakfast with the Tim Stevens. What more can one want?
