Glad I logged-in to read that.
I think the Melbourne-Sydney thing has been thrashed out enough here over the years. A huge, pointless, mind-numbing storm in a teacup, full of broad generalisations, ill-supported statements and general twaddle. Stop bitching, get back to your practice and self-promotion.

So called "self promotion" here consists of people in the Australian jazz world sharing news and other info about their latest projects or projects they are involved in. In the end they are simply "promoting" Australian jazz. I would think they were sharing stuff with people they would have thought would have been interested. I do it. Others do it. When Ironguts posts a link to one of his many excellent reviews it becomes one of his more interesting contributions. I welcome them all and am pleased that the site can also function as an archive in that way. If you think all this is worse than a toilet wall then you're welcome to your world view.

Here, Here Isaacs. After all, the thing at the top of the page does say "OZJAZZFORUM - Australian Jazz Discussion". How reader can say that Australian musicians discussing their music and related projects is mere self-promotion is beyond me!

Please. Let me be the one to alert people to the fact that the expression is 'hear, hear', as in 'have a listen to this' or 'take note', rather than 'this is where it is'.
I know I'm pedantic so don't bother bringing it to my attention.

Given his ubiquity around these parts - he created it, you'll read up top - I would have thought "here, here" was a perfectly accurate way to describe Mr Isaacs. Because here he is. "Hear, hear" seems inappropriate, as we're reading rather than listening to what he has to say. Perhaps "See, see Isaacs" (as Ma Rainey sang of Mr Rider) would be the most appropriate of all.

"Here, here" has an entirely different connotation, possibly antagonistic - if one construes it to be the antonym of the placative "there there"...

Or we could look at it again, in context.
But who cares. Forget it.

Good to see that what is ostensibly a jazz forum is not too high and mighty to turn itself over to syllable-by-syllable deconstruction of the English language.
Some may say we're straying somewhat from the topic at hand. Whatever that was.
Now. What about the footy eh? Eh?
