Yeah... I think the assumption that any press is good press or any publicised jazz 'ambassador' is positive for the art form is dangerous.
Don't jump to this as a comparison for Wynton (as I do highly respect his knowledge and ability) but Andre Rieu is not good publicity for the majority of 'classical' or 'orchestral' performers right?
The bottom line is surely the jazz identity crisis right?

Non! Andre Rieu!
I's like to put Andrew Rieu with his smug face and revolting hairstyle through a meat grinder - slowly. And he's taken over 75% of Ovation. He must die.

Re Wynton and PR.
If you stumble on half a glass of water in the desert, you call it a godsend. Depending on your patience you might acknowledge comments that the tumbler is not in the hippest style, that the glass is half empty, that it would be more beneficial with mineral salts added and that it may be dangerous. Or given your thirst you might find such carping absolutely extraordinary.

At the peak of his considerable fame, a certain flautist might also have protested that he was not only The Mann, but also The Herbie. That's more like it utensils. Brilliant

I use first names. I am part of the problem as well as part of the solution.

Youv got to be kidding punter.... I think you underestimate how many trumpet geeks are out there who aren't even aware of the political stuff. These are people who have no real interest in jazz either, but he will forever be a trumpet hero if nothng else. Just check out any YouTube clip and read the comments. Most of the debate is about if he can tongue faster than Maynard. Now there is no need to get into those kind of details. But can he really?

Actually I was honestly curious about his technique. So, what is that all you boys think about btw? Oh yeah: golf! AJ: I could have made a 'Leave it to Beaver' pun, but I won't because that would be tasteless.
