WARNING: This thread is NOT to be used solely for recording the discs Kenny packs for Saturday arvos/evenings at the office. Kenny is VERY interested in what other people are digging. He RELISHES reading contributions other than his own to this thread. Kenny is a NICE fellow. His favourite ice cream flavour is SAUSAGE.
Kalaparush and the Light - Morning Song Paul Grabwosky - Tales Of Time And Space Fred Anderson & Hamid Drake - Back Together Again Rob Burke - Wie Eyed Jann Rutherford - The Scented Garden Herbie Hancock - The Complete Blue Note Sixties Sessions

Gideon:
Tales Of Time And Space: The first tune craps me off no end, but I love the rest of it.
The Really Good Stuff: Hearing Tinkler is a less combative (probably not the right word, but I'm sure you know what I mean) setting. Great tunes and playing by Grabowsky. The fact that it's far, far more than an Australian trying get some reflected Big Apple glory from some big-name hot shots - with Paul and Scott matched with those guys, it really hits the spot as a genuine Melb/NY synthesis. Lovano - he's better here, IMHO, than his last couple of albums.
In fact, the US dudes should be thanking Paul for letting them contribute, rather than the other way 'round.
Wide Eyed really slipped by when I first got it, but I keep on going back to it. It's very laid back, and I think it took a while for me to hear the magic that was going down in such a languid pace. On that basis, I hope it's gonna be one of those albums that sounds even better - and means more to me - a year, two years, 10 years from now.

The Grabwosky album opener, Tailfin, still sounds a little out of step with the mood of the rest of the disc, but I'm now digging it as a rousing opener. 'Sfar as I can tell, hearing his stuff with Paul, Scott, Julien Wilson, Philip Rex and Simon Barker shoukld just about be the MIJF highlight. Or, at least, one of many.

Gideon: It was Carson City Stage from this album: www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=UIDSUB020404161921012910&sql=Ajk3gtq4zpu4oMeanwhile, hey it's getting kind of busy around here. About time, too. Meanwhile, Kenny is on the last day of his hols. Kenny has been enjoying owning a Brand New Car for the First Time Ever - one with a CD Player. But Kenny has discovered that it's no more possible to play endless jazz records in a car shared with others than it is in an abode shared with others. But as The Others have fucked off for the day, Kenny is about to enjoy wallowing in his fortnight-long jamboree of west coast jazz. Sweet, slinky, cruisy, hard-swinging, melodic, bluesy, tight - Kenny loves this stuff. However, as he is having those very naughty boys from Half Bent, Gideon and Ronny, on his Radio Show (The Pearls, Monday May 3 from 8pm, PBS), Kenny recognises and welcomes the fact he is about to undergo another of those joyous about-turns in his listening habits. The Complete Pacific Jazz Recordings Of The Chico Hamilton Quintet Art Pepper - Smack Up Art Pepper - + Eleven Shorty Rogers & His Giants - Martians Come Back Shorty Rogers & His Giants - Way Up There The Complete Nocturne Recordings Volume 1
