Hmmm. Not a lotofOz this week. I fact, none at all ...
Don Rendell/Ian Carr Quintet - Shades of Blue/Dusk Fire, Phase III/Live. Unadultered brilliant Brit stuff from the '60s Duke Ellington - Masterpieces, Uptown, Festival Session Jackie McLean - Let Freedom Ring Various - The Complete Nocturne Recordings Vol 1
Why do they call it cool - the opposite of warm - when so much of it is HOT?
Would we be better if Johnny Howard was a jazz nut?
What's you favourite coffee haunt? (My Mum's over from NZ for a week and I can hardly wait to drag her over to Brunetti's and get into some serious artery-clogging.)
Should we nominate Mark Isaacs for the next Miss Universe get down?
Who's gonna help me start a Western Suburbs Jazz Festival?
How do you like your lentils - rare, medium or well-done?
How can we get those Cougar bourbon people to spend some of their $$$$$$$$ in the jazz sector? (We seem to have the perfect demographic for them.)
If Kenny G played jazz, what instrument would he play?
When I take Bennie to see the Wallabies beat up on Scotland next Sunday, should I get him a hot dog - or should I get serious and teach him how to eat a pie? (That's providing I can afford one - it's been a looooong time since I've been to any kind of footy match.)
What's your fave non-jazz album/artist?
How long will the Krall/Costello marriage last?
Urg!

Got two new
Jessica Williams CDs this week form the net:
Both Solo
1 x plays Ellington
1 x Standards for Lovers (eeek what a title?) both excellent she has so much emotion. Even Joe Chindamo likes her.
Also listening to some old stuff, Mel Torme, TORME - dated but brilliant arrangements Jay Leonhart - love the bass, love the songs.
Loads of Keith Jarret lately
and 'bout to listen to Soaring at Dawn Fionna Burnett which I have only heard live (at the MIJF a few years ago thanks to Adrian Jackson) and I really enjoyed that gig, so there.

Kenny: that hot dog is the MOST disgusting thing that has ever been posted on OJF and that includes Cartman! I cannot believe you will feed that to your offsping! You, bloke you! Can, I have one too please?
Papa Stevens: thank you for your lovely playing at the Southbank tonight. It was a very emotional gig and it was hard stiffling tears and that was just Henk's!
take care folks.

Can, I have one too please? Ha - I offered a slice of it to Bennie post-brekkie this morning; he took an excited, tentative nibble and handed it back, saying: "Me not like it." Moron. Shit. I thought you were talking about the sultana cake. At the rugby he had chips and a doughnut (that last being a bribe so dad could stay and watch the second half). Bennie didn't like the rugby very much, but he liked Circus Oz even less. As we were leaving (before the intermission) I asked him if he didn't like it. He said. "Too loud!"

Whoah, Superfly!
I can remember my Mum and her pals listening to that record (vinyl LPS in the 1970s folks) when I was a kid. They also listened to loads of Jazz but - Curtis Mayfield, phew! Next you'll tell us you have loads of John Cale cds tucked away somewhere. (I love his songs.)
Ever surprising this OJF thing you started Mr Isaacs.
What goes around comes around!
