Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell - mu Saxophone Summit - a surprisingly musical (given that it must be a promoter's wet dream) and in fact great record featuring Lovano, Leibman and Michael Brecker with Cecil McBee on bass
awesome latin show on RRR yesterday, don't know who it was but it was funky as hell
love the crickets......

Well there you go ...
The reissue of Basra has been delayed release in the US because of demands by the artist that the title be changed because of sensitivities to do with Iraq.
Too weird for words, really.

Yep.
Apparently La Roca/Sims is a drummer AND lawyer, so maybe he's just being cautious.
You'd have to support him in his quest if it was a new release.
But in this case, it's an album recorded almost 40 years ago and widely known - in jazz circles anyway - as basra for four decades.
Screwy!

I really like Hank's playing, but that's an oxymoron if ever I heard one

I really like Hank's playing, but that's an oxymoron if ever I heard one Confession time: I don't really love him either, but I have quite a few albums on which heb plays - either as leader or sideman - and they're all good or great. From an overall point of view, they can't be beat. But I'd prefer Stanley Turrentine any day. Funny thing: On threads at AAJ or Jazz Corner that go along the lines of "What's your favourite tenor player/soloist/pianist/whatever", I always reply with the likes of Jimmy Forrest or Hank Jones. Never an Australian. I think it's because I end to think of Australian jazz - and its performers - more from a holistic point of view.

I go away for a while and poor Mr Bud gets ignored! Hah!
Don't any of you know Graeme Lyall??? Or are you all pretending to be under 30?
For goodness sake, the man is a genius.
Buy the CD Bud, and be impressed.
Oh btw Happy, I love, love, love Sonny Rollins as much as Mr Lyall. Pity, tho' old man Koster woudn't play Decision for me.
