Posting photos: There's a thread on it waaaay back there.
In yesterday's mail, from a Californian joint called Worlds Records who I haven't dealt with before. Good service - pulled the trigger on Friday, in the letterbox on Thursday. Yes, I love the internet!
Jack Purvis triple CD. 1928-35. Ratbag trumpeter, cool cat. Adrian Rollini double CD, 1929-33. Bass saxophone virtuoso, cool cat.
Both on an amazing label, Jazz Oracle, with great booklets/pics etc. Not everyone's cuppa - you have to wade through a lot of camp vocals. But largely thanks to Richard Sudhalter's beaut book Lost Chords, I'm really digging this white vintage jazz stuff.

Missy Higgins (involuntarily) Through gritted teeths? Or merely tuning it out to the realms of background noise? ;D

Sounds rather generous to me. Are you sure? It may seem that way, but aj has some baggage in that department ...

put it this way : my kids would be quite happy to get a missy higgins cd, whereas when I played the Krall Christmas cd (out of a morbid sense of curiosity), they were demanding I stop halfway through the first song. They were right.

Listening to a new purchase of Jessica Williams with Ray Drummond and Victor Lewis recorded live at Yoshi's (volume two), still can't understand why no one brings her out here to play. It is divine.

Oh no, Vicki, you can't be serious. Either Diana Krall is being called a jazz barbie, and then that makes 2 entirely different singers so far in being placed in this elusive category of jazz singer. Or you're saying AJ's preference of Missy Higgins over Diana Krall's "Christmas Songs" is the same as the jazz barbie comment, which is equally preposterous! Recently been listening to Jazz Head sampler that I bought at Wang. Great stuff, some of it, including Oehlers/Keevers, "beautiful freak". 9 thumbs up.

listening to Phil Rex (related toTiger?) Graeme Lyall Dave beck and Joe Chindamo. Oooooh la la great music. Last night I went to hear Opera Australia's production of Romeo and Juliet - fabulous. No jazz or opera barbies in listening distance. Thank God. I'm sorry to say there are far more than two jazz Barbies and Ken dolls on this planet Ms Mim, but I'm not going to name them cos that might hurt their feelings.
