Re the lovely bird clip, and as posted on another forum:
Not news, but great anyway.
Somebody please correct me if you have better info: Apparently this film was an aborted Norman Granz attempt to make a sequel to "Jammin' the Blues." The Bird segments surfaced, without a soundtrack. in the '80s, I think. Then people figured out that they synched up very nicely with the commercially released performances of "Ballade" and "Celebrity." Granz's way of filmmaking at this time was to record the music first, then film the musicians mimicking it later.

Hey Vicki, you should hear him play piano too....he's a freak of a musician. I've used him on piano on gigs in Perth before.
Listening to:
Coltrane Live at the Half Note Coltrane Live at the Half Note Coltrane Live at the Half Note Coltrane Live at the Half Note
and after that;

Saw Vince Jones last night at Bennetts...was so f**king amazing that I'm going again tonight. He is an incredible artist- such an individual. He's got that thing that is so hard to define- he reaches out to you and pulls you in... at times I just laughed in joy with the beauty I was witnessing (not just in Vince's singing, but also Simon Barkers out-of-this-world grooves and Ben Waples beautiful tone and melodic soloing)!
on CD: The Beatles- "Revolver" Imogen Heap- "Speak For Yourself" John Mayer Trio- "Try"

Saw Vince for the second time tonight at Bennetts- freaking beautiful AGAIN. ( I forgot to mention in my last post how beautiful Matt McMahon played- not only is he a great soloist, but he is such a lovely accompanist as well....that is a real art in my opinion)
Kudos to Vince, Ben, Simon, Matt, and Mash (for pulling such a beautiful sound on both nights!!!) You have inspired me more than you could ever know! And such lovely people as well....
