Today I have on a bunch of mulatu Asatke's stuff -- he did the music for broken flowers, it's awesome Ethiopian jazz with crazy horns that clash beautifully.

Kenny Garrett's Black Hope and African Exchange student...LOVE THESE ALBUMS Also, 3 beautiful singers 1) Raul Midon 2) Rhiannon 3) Caitlin Smith (from NZ) I had the opportunity to hear Rhiannon live in New Zealand last week- she is incredible. What a soulful person... she has sung with Bobby McFerrin for many years. Her main thing is improv, but it's not just oobeedoobeewah...it is SO much more than that. She is a no-bull-s**t kind of lady. Check her out at www.rhiannonmusic.com, but nothing will compare to her live performances!!! Hopefully we can get her to Australia sometime next year!!!

Oh wow Alison! I have Rhiannon's Flight CD -- it was an amazing introduction to improvisation, and I still use it all the time. My hubby always pays it out as she says fully Californinan stuff like 'Make a sound that you love and feel coming from YOUR BODDDDYYYY' but it's so inspiring.
A friend of mine did a workshop in the US with her last year, it was amazing and she improved heaps.
Good taste girl!

Been listening to Triosk - Sounds like these guys have definately been heavily influenced by the necks, but they have taken that kinda ambient tension thing in a different more electronic direction. Also I cant get enough of Motion on Broadway vol. 2- This should be regarded as a classic jazz recording. The combination of Lovanos' extremely delayed resolution, Frisells' at times almost rockabilly comping and Motions' liquid time thing is beautifull.

I sat in the front row once and got more than I bargained for when he opened his mouth, and it wasn't condesation from his horn. Twas like a sprinkler on a Toorak lawn in the middle of a summer's day.

The Radiators - Total Evaporation The Radiators - Law Of The Fish The Subdudes - Lucky The Subdudes - Annunciation
Every day not spent in not returning to New Orleans simply increases the pain and longing. I suspect after me 'n' Bennie have done our radio chores tomorrow we'll be rustling us up some sausage jambalaya.

In the course of packing up the house to move:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Good Son
What a load of old crap. Utter hogwash from start to finish. How ever could I have taken this seriously?
Also:
Brahms, Academic Festival Overture James Morrison, Postcards from Down Under
It may be daggy but I have a soft spot for both of these.
And on the untimely death of Grant McLennan, pretty much anything by the Go-Betweens. Particularly 16 Lovers Lane and Before Hollywood

I am SHOCKED Mr Stevens, shocked. Why on earth would you have a soft spot for this recording?
