Kenny, you a Norman Simmons fan - wow.
I've been listening to some old stuff (classic) lately: Cannonball Adderley (who sounds so fresh) and some early Tim Stevens (do you guys know him? the trio with Alan B and Nick).
Sorry I missed the Bennetts gig for Half Bent, Mr S but they won the coin toss.
The Half Bent festival was really impressive folks, what I heard I really enjoyed, such a diversity of music. Really a great night out except for those noisy yakking young women at the back near the bar. Where is Meg when you need her.
Young people have no manners or respect these days. Shocking! And get rid of those flares, please.

Today I'm listening to some Graham Lyall records and wondering if anyone else in the world knows he's as good as Shorter or Adderley anyone else you could name

Who cares about drawing such lines?
But even buying into the debate, I reckon it'd be pretty much a draw.
Forget the records - Shorter and Adderley have been/were lucky enough to be recorded heaps and heaps; Lyall hardly at all by comparison - but the times I've seen/heard him play I certainly felt I was witnessing greatness.
It's one of those cases where the recorded output doesn't go anywhere near telling the story.

Mal, you should hang around a bit - you might brighten things up a bit, maybe even heighten the tone.
Do you like pineapple on pizza?
Hmmmm yummmy thanx for news. Who are Jamie's duos with?

Pineapple on pizza is a crime against humanity. Geez I agree, mate. Revolting. I was just checkin' out the guy's cred, that's all. I believe it's very popular in Wangaratta.

McCoy Tyner - Tender Moments Randy Johnston - Hit & Run Roberto Gatto - Rugantino. Holy cow this is good - Italians luminaries doing a sort of Gil Evans/Morricone/Maria Schneider thing to an Italian musical. Tasty. Ashley Turner - Beautiful Open Spaces. Got this one in the mail yesterday - the bassist with a whole slew of Sydney hot shots: Roger Manins, Andrew Dickeson, Matt McMahon, Blaine Whitaker, Carl Dewhurst and Craig Simon. Ian Chaplin Quartet - Tjapangati. When this came out, I played it at least twice a day for months on end. Haven't played it for ages since then. This is a monster, funkorific album - and (to my mind) even better than the more widely lauded sequel with that Tinkler person. Geez, what a classic! Ray Brown Trio - Live At Starfucks. Another one I haven't played for a while, the one with the shocking title. It rocks good, with plenty of Ellingtonia to keep in the mood as I keep on waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for my Hodges Mosaic to arrive.
