Wadada Leo Smith, he's great, I've been checking out 'Touch the Earth, Break The Shells', tis good ya.
Berio 'Sequenzas' ( Ensemble Contemorain) - some better than others for me, Trumpet, Oboe, favs so far. Though they're all interesting though.
and more of 'More is More'. This guy Peter Evans is amazing, he makes me look like Grd 1 AMEB, scares the pants off me, not that I need a scare for that to happen.

Hey Ironguts, I'm really glad you've been checking out Peter Evans. He really is phenomenal. I believe he is touring with Evan Parker's 'Electro-acoustic ensemble' this year.
If you're interested, Peter also plays with with bassist Moppa Elliot and his group 'Mostly Other People Do The Killing'.

Yeah I've checked them out too, but only on myspace. I must admit to not being into them so much, bit too 'taking the piss' for me. This could be another thread actually, humor and music. I'll go back and listen to some more ( I'm out of downloads this month so gone to snail pace) but it's like the group Sex Mob, probably loads of fun live having a few beers etc, but I'm not into the music by itself so much. I'll get back to you on that.

Shaggaz, the trombone one is not me fave actually. Of course amazing playing but there are others I 'like' better. Do you know the piece? Wa wa WHY!!
mats, I listened again to MOPDTK on myspace, yeah, I'm not so into it. I find it hard to explain why but basically I'm not into the 'silliness' of it. Maybe I'm becoming an old fuddy duddy but I don't get the feeling of a serious depth of expression, maybe I need a whole CD. I do think they would be fun live whilst ramming some beer under the belt though.
Punter, that spring heel jack is great, did you give some weird trio X3 - New Jazz Meeting remix stuff too? I'm quite liking that.

Tumba Francesa la Caridad de Oriente.
Gotta love a CD that starts with talk giving historical perspective on the music! It was one of those CD purchases that I was a bit concerned about - had potential to be a real flop - but it's fantastic. The guys at Soul Jazz records sure do some great stuff.

Well ironguts, I literally just got my boss to lend me the oboe and voice sequenzas so can't wait to check them out. I like Christian Lindberg playing the trombone one, but I think I'd like to see it live, because it does have a strong theatre element with the whole 'i'm a sad clown why oh why' vibe and I like the way Lindberg performs that stuff.
I had the privilege of hearing Tristram Williams play the trumpet one in a room at the VCA about five years ago and it was astonishing. What a freak.

You mean, you can tell which job I'm at by the mention of oboe?! Ha ha. It's just not the same without you and the quiz Al... although the choir are rehearsing Bohemian Rhapsody every Thursday lunchtime...

Funny no-one seems to know that Spring Heel Jack stuff but it's really great, Evan Parker and Wadada sound amazing together. And yep that was me wot gave you New Jazz Meeting. It's bloody good isn't it... Steve Lacey is awesome on it. It's also a really interesting concept exploring precomposed music and improvisation. Great liner notes. My mate Buff put me onto it, he digs out some weird and wonderful shit. Hey Ironguts you and Tim sounded amazing last night. You gonna record?

No plans to record that but it was a fun gig, the wed 303 vibe is a good chance to experiment with some line ups I might other wise not get a chance to explore. The one 2 weeks ago with Mags and Hannaford was really interesting too, we went minimal which surprised me but fuck it was fun.
Ok, so that's Lacy, yeah, some really good stuff on there, who's the drummer?

Don Banks - Nexus. I think this was just released by ABC Jazz, because I haven't heard anything about it, but it's incredible stuff.

I was obsessed with Nexus when I was 14.
