...and this is the great thing about competitions like this: discussion. even if the idea of the reduction of artistic expression to a crude system of ranking is unappealing, the discourse that accompanies it is always interesting.

Talent Scout, I think all the vocalists in the comp are worth a listen. As for the festival, Tomasz Stanko, EST, Triptych, Anita Wardell, Michelle Nicolle, probably lots more.

we all want a bit of jazz drama to tide us over, don't we....
thanks mim. i look forward to the event. i saw anita wardell in london not long a go...she ain't too shabby.
this should be an interesting event because it will challenge people's perceptions of the 'role of a singer'...there should be a few vocalists that will help to remould jazzlovers views on the subject.

I live in London and just saw Sophie Brous is here as a finlaist for a jazz competition in Brussels...anyone know her contact or whether she's playing here (in london)?...strange coinsidence considering my earlier posts!!

apparently she was one of the three winners in the international jazz singing comp in brussels and performed at some big jazz fest there. thats all i know
