Good on YOU Mark. Build a wall, shit all over rational debate. Where have I seen that behaviour before?

There certainly is a rational debate to be had on Israel/Palestine but that was not the tone set on this thread. It began with a defamatory one liner and I thought I'd try and keep the feel happening.

Your unerring feel for the feel seems to have escaped you. Nothing defamatory about that I don't reckon. The calumny, in this case, is all Chindamo's.

Good point Mark. Characteristically straight to the heart of the issue. The irony that you are rightly highlighting is that of course Joe doesn't mention the occupation, because the lobby whose guest he was, and the propaganda of which he is feeding, is concerned with exclusively denying the occupation. An unfortunate position to hold, because the illegal Israeli occupation is the single biggest contributor to the fears that JCh realistically describes.

the illegal Israeli occupation is the single biggest contributor to the fears that JCh realistically describes. I'd dispute that on many levels. But if that's your summation of a 100-year conflict so be it. Next time you're in Sydney come to my house and we'll drink, eat and discuss it as you're clearly into rational debate and so am I. But really I don't have time to discuss Israel/Palestine here, today or anytime soon.

I read that piece of Joe's when he first wrote it. Having worked directly with Palestinians for many years and being somewhat informed on ME politics, I believe that the piece is Joe reporting the truth as he saw and experienced it. I have no problem with that.
What is frustrating me, increasingly, with this forum is the ridiculous petty projections made by invisible cowards, especially it would seem of late, when it relates to Joe Chindamo.

I read that piece of Joe's when he first wrote it. Having worked directly with Palestinians for many years and being somewhat informed on ME politics, I believe that the piece is Joe reporting the truth as he saw and experienced it. Well, exactly. His truth is only therefore as good as that of the people who are feeding it to him. I have nothing against Joe per se - and as an international ambassador for Australian jazz he (and the other interlocutor in this debate, Mark Isaacs) works harder than most. But, for an intelligent human being, his complete lack of wonder at the causes of the anxieties and dangers he was experiencing is somewhat flabbergasting. Of course it's not poverty. (Who told him that?) It is the occupation - beginning and end. He found himself imagining how much more the Israelis would be capable of if so much expense and energy were not devoted to defence? Haven't we all. But defending the indefensible can be an expensive business, and even invoking the ghosts of such non-Israelis as Weill, Kern, Gershwin, Porter (who wasn't even Jewish) and Berlin does not make an illegal, colonial, military occupation in any way right. I look forward to Joe's (surely imminent) gig at the Ramallah Cultural Palace - where the audience will welcome him as warmly as any other audience he has ever played to - and the article that follows.

Vicki I am so unbelievably sick of your objections to people's choice to remain anonymous. Maybe people choose to post under non-identifiable names because they understand that certain 'middle-of-the-road' conservatives feel the need to villify those who have a opinion that is not 'the norm.'. I think it is quite immature of you to bring this up whenever the opprtunity arises, even though a whole post was dedicated to it ages ago. Maybe you would care to air your conerns there, so I may not inadvertantly come across your infuriating remarks

I don't agree with the way Palestinians have been treated either, but why the fuck can't Israeli's go out and hear someone play the piano?....grow up.
