Of course I am uninhibited by the use of a fake name! I already explained that and why.
Lets recap:
I hate Joe Chindamo's playing, and I find the way he talks (and plays) to be totally arrogant. Since I don't enjoy his playing, I feel justified in calling that arrogance unfounded. The 'slitting the wrists' comment was purely symbolic. Maybe that didn't come across in the translation
I didn't enjoy Tiger's playing at Muller's gig. LikeI said before, it all sounded 'boxed in' and Bloxom was the only one trying to kick the walls in.
Have you ever heard the 'theory' that all the truth comes out of a person once they've had a few beers? Well, this is my way of being honest. I use this method because I know that it makes no difference whether i'm registerd or not (I repeat again that I am a registered member of this forum). All I wish to do is present an argument.

Hey Jazz Police, ignore the flack and stick to your game. Not saying I agree or disagree but always love a strong opinion no matter if its in white or yellow. Too often people get defensive when a strong idea is put forward, a bit like Tim's article. There's no need or indeed benefit in getting all "you gutless coward" etc. I wish there was just simply more discussion about the ideas rather than the reactionist crap. Look forward to a pissed rave with you one day, or maybe another one??

good point stinky. just because jazz police is seemingly the only person who shares jazz police's ideas doesn't mean the people that disagree with him should 'lose their cool' and indulge in what tinky terms quite eloquently as 'reactionist crap'. Honesty, discussion and debate can only contribute positively to our 'scene'. One other thing. JP appears to blatantly attack people... fine... is that worse than people showing up to people's gigs and being nice to people whose music and personality they despise? I don't have an answer but I'd be interested to heare yours.

I am locking this thread as it has gone off topic. The discussion about "Jazz Police" should continue elsewhere as every time someone posts on this other topic it seemingly places the issue of Joe's alleged support for "the occupation" as top of the agenda. If anyone has more to say on Joe and Israel please start a separate thread. Likewise for the discussion on "JP". This way we'll get two distinct threads as is warranted.

Since this thread was until now locked (due to its straying off topic while carrying a sensitive headline) Michael Stevens (who began the thread under the pseudonym JC) asked me by email to post the following on his behalf. Having agreed to do that, I do not wish to give the impression that I am giving Michael the last word, so this thread is now open again. Please stay on-topic though: the discussion is about Joe's summation of his visit to Israel or more generally about the question of artists performing in politically-sensitive areas. Message from Michael Stevens: "Lest my original post be seen as wanton abuse of Joe Chindamo, rather than a focussed response to what I see as the cockeyed propaganda that he was propounding, let me make clear that it is only because I respect Joe as a musician and as a flag-bearer for Australian music that his comments bother me so much. Joe is undeniably one of the best in the world at what he does, as has coherently and fulsomely been argued on this forum. Personally, I admire him enormously for his achievements and his ongoing success, and it is a measure of his talent that Israeli audiences (hardly undiscerning) took him to their hearts. Israel is also among the best in the world at what it does, and in that sense Joe and it are a heaven-made match. His article, though, referred to the way that the truth, or more specifically the whole truth, often goes missing. That's no excuse for halting the investigation, however. Apologists for the flawed Israeli regime would happily show only one side of that truth as well, and Joe's dissemination of it verbatim - in the guise of restoring truth to the equation - does, I think, betray unexpected intellectual laziness. That's all I wanted to say, and I'm grateful to Joe for his measured responses, in public and in private, to what I said. I hold him in the highest esteem as a player, admire him greatly for the work he has done to help put Australian music on the map, and truly believe all the things I said about the reception he would receive in the Occupied Palestinian Territories - should he choose to pay them a call - and the power of individual musicians to act as bridge-builders. And, for the answer to my original question: www.barbican.org.uk/music/event-detail.asp?id=3784" Michael Stevens
