This is so dissappointing. I am just a dude that likes to go and see great players who i admire. I see you guys as adults, teachers and artists. But in alot of these posts i am starting to get a different opinion. I buy your cds and go to your gigs. Why should i respect you guys when you come off looking as completely self focused destructive people. As a punter, i just can't get over this. what are you guys doing? I have always thought of musicians as the quiet gentle people whose role is to liberate the minds of the community through the liberation of themselves. To help bring harmony through music is a great gift. Outside of your ego there is real bad stuff going on that you could be doing something about. But some of you choose to waste time and move further away from the source of why we play. Can you guys explain to me why there is so much ego headbutting going on here?

Oh wow ... looks like you've copped a timely revelation about the non-sainthood of musicians. Me, I've never ever expected 'em to be any more or less then simply human. And I've met share of complete arseholes, too.
Get over it.
Stop confusing the message with messengers.

Ohwow, don't really know what your point is here. Each person/artist that posts here has the same to deal with in life as most people. We have bills, family, speeding fines, lovers just like everyone else. The stuff we write here is to do with another side of our lives and they are not nessecarily connected in the way you percieve. I might be a great parent, patient and supportive. I may be a great partner, loving and listening. When it comes to music, I'm critical and intense, thats the way it works for me. Art is an intense thing, full of challenging thought and confrontation. If you want enlightenment and peace, go to Buddhism.

Youre right Ohwow... There is real bad stuff going on - but Id like to know what you think the source is? This music we are playing is not new age relaxation music for crying out loud..it has tension , groove and a myriad of colour and dynamics when its focussed. this requires energy...and most players in this scene either get it from each other or from themselves or from the audience(if there is one to speak of.) One thing about energy -if its real then its dark and light, good and destructive.I can understand if you find some of these outpourings less than spiritual - but to keep music alive ,tension must exist - otherwise no cadences. no beauty, and no point....

They will always turn out to be human.

I could add that some of us are attempting to generate some positive energy with the same intensity - just look around this forum a bit harder....

If you want to keep the heroes you have in your life dear, NEVER get to know them beyond a quick hello and handshake. They will always turn out to be human. Or, change your idea of what you respect, admire, and are inspired by. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way, I love that the people I look up to have blatant human qualities, good and bad. I would hate to think that the music I listen to comes from a place entirely of happiness and good feeling. And, if these amazing sounds come from infallible, omnipotent beings, then what hope is there for the rest of us who one day want to be able to create music of equal beauty? An afterthought: unless, of course, you consider yourself to be infallible, and hold yourself and your peers to the same impossible standards.

really interesting thread when it's cooking this forum is really great and the issues that have arisen from the outings are fascinating i agree with the sentiment previously expressed, that even if the outings are something maybe you'd rethink if you could mark, it's kind of understandable that your reaction was emotional and spontaneous given how savagely you were attacked. and i think it would be a loss if you bailled

Vicki: I know that joint, and have eaten there. It's NOT Vietnamese pho they serve, though - just very good Chinese-style noodle soup. Get it right! Kennyweir you Kiwi Murdoch hack! You question me about cuisine? Are you insane? The chef whose stock recipe they use at that place is a man called Huan Phan, from a town about 50 ks south of Han Noi. Han Noi is in north Vietnam, at least it was last time I visited there. Most of the other staff are from south Vietnam. How would you know what anything tastes like anyway? You are a still a smoker, yes? So you have no taste buds. (Even if you have given up, it takes 32 years to get your taste buds back and lose the smell from your clothes.) Pho, soup, broth, zuppa, noodle soup, wonton soup, it's all liquid to me. What they serve there has got to be ten times better than most of the disgusting 'pho' made with cheap stock cubes of nasty chemicals and salt in most of the joints you eat in. Tip: never take on a food fascist peri-menopausal woman with a father from Egypt and French/Italian background or prepare to die. Finally: chuc mung nam moi, to you Kenny!
