Timothy, you're right. Ladylex's attack on Frank may be worryingly bizarre. What I find more worrying though is the deafening silence which follows attacks( much worse than this one) directed at Aussie musicians who are far more accomplished or more successful than FD. This site truly upholds the Australian way. John Williamson should be singing about it.

Because she's abusing people who don't share her opinion, therefore she should be backing up her opinion with something other than "you should be ashamed if you don't feel the same way as me".

Yes, Ladylex may be abusing people for not sharing her opinion, but at least, in this case, it's a positive opinion she's asking people to share. Is that such a crime? I agree, she's being fascist, but only in the sense that we all are when we try to convince our friends to love what we love. 'How can you not like Sushi, are you mad? !!!!!!!! Frank is being contrary for it's own sake and as far as I can tell, his comments sound bitter and dismissive. And to do so to a musician of Mark's calibre is just disrespectul, especailly when Mark is Mark and Frank is Frank.Comparing ladylex's admiration for Mark to Howard's arse licking of George Bush is incredibly rude and uncalled for. As for being liberal minded, he adds that not all of us can share Howard's views on the refugees. Actually, the tone of that comment suggests that wouldn't be so liberal about accepting an opposing view on this issue. Not many of us in the arts world would be. Mark has done so many good things for music in this country, as have others who have been shat on from a great height on this forum. High handed opinions are all well and good, but I think they have to be earned in order for them to be meaningful. But that's only my opinion.

The difference between lactating and arse licking? It largely depends on which way your arse is pointing.

I thought she was just being a bit of a funny tease. amazing how different folks project different things on to the same piece of text me included

Good point Glen, For example; ....Again Criticism is what we need in our scene. You guys (and I'm speaking to Maurice and Glen) are all afraid of it, that's why you use psuedonyms. cricticism we really need more critics! you got me started mate so i'll finish........... the critics in this country are mainly totaly crap and if you dont agree with me you be very ASHAMED!!!! . :-) fair dinkum most published critics in Australia aren't vey good at distancing themsleves from personal biases and music politics and most of them dont know much about music either so that kind of stacks up thre reasons why everyone shoud like totally IGNORER ciritcs and not read their stuff in the first place ......as far as the politics and personal bias when it come to critiquing music goes it applies to just about anyone else on this forum too so none of you should be reading this post and if you are you should be ASHAMED!

It's always good to see a coherent, logical argument being put forward.

Glen, old chap, why not enter the jazz writing competition and show them how it's done? www.jazz-planet.com/njwc/Should be a ripper this year. There's allegedly a special award for the most outrageously indefensible generalisation and/or oversimplification, and any entry that doesn't compare its subject with at least two American classics, taken from a checklist provided by the 6pm slot on Saturday Jazztrack, will be automatically disqualified.

It's warming up again... Frank and Tim are right on. Ladylex is a bizarre unit I didn't really think Frank was actually dissing Mark's music and you have to admit that the "buoy bobbing around in a sea of mediocrity" was kind of poetic... Love your work Danky

Yeah,I agree punter. Franks point seemed to me to be about the fact that it is ok to have a different opinion.
