This is truly pathetic.
This thread is meant to be congratulating Mark on his success and recognition from a port in the US.
Still cant see that happening. *rolls eyes

horrible stuff this both mark and frank are fine musicians i am more familiar with frank's playing and i love it because he takes the road less trodden and always thinks like a composer he's so not average and maurice, i actually think you need to spend a little less time practising 'cos it appears it has turned you into a bitter fuck

My two cents if I may.
This variety of arguing and criticism IMHO is sure to be the very undoing of our scene. If I were an 18 year old jazz/improv student once again and was reading this shit, it would immediately discourage me from many important things like creating and performing my own music and even conversing with older (comparatively) members of the community.
Is that what we want?
This is not meant to be a holier than thou post, because I am definitely guilty of saying stupid shit about people, mostly not on here; but surely we can develop a forum and a wider community that includes healthy criticism/opinions and also encouragement for players of all sub genres and ability levels.
What is the point of this one-upmanship? Why not just offer constructive thoughts and get better at your own craft.
Preparing for attack,
Shan x

Shaggaz, have you only just noticed bad behaviour on this forum? It's being going on since its inception. I even hear on the grapevine that someone close to you had a field day maligning a certain famous pianist on these very pages earlier this year. Sad stuff, I'm sure you would agree. By the way Maurice, lay off Frank. He's a good guy.

By the way Maurice, lay off Frank. He's a good guy. hi all, I agree that Frank is a good guy, I also like Frank, but that's not the reason I would say lay off, find a decent argument is more to the point! as far as I can see (and maybe I'm wrong) but all he did was express an opinion about a certain musician, this is quickly a crime here...

Actually, in this particular thread, all he did was express an opinion about a certain poster.

Day 2. Still no sign of improvement. Ladylex tries hard, going it alone. Mim and Shan state some home truths. Elsewhere, much the same. Chopkins and Maurice to meet behind the bike sheds after school. Suspension imminent.

dearest saintmonk,
whilst not wishing to start another argument here, yes I am aware that this behaviour has been going on for some time, I was a member for ages and then deleted my account and then started another one. I don't think that changes the reasoning behind my statements.
Shan
P.S Not even going to validate your other comment with a considered response.

Alimcg, that's really funny. Saintmonk, I recall that episode and a few other unpleasant ones.
Yes, I am a bastard, but can't claim to be the best in my field.

Ok Shaggaz, we won't mention the war, but I think that period signalled the downfall of the forum, if not the burning of the rest of "Rome".
Do agree with your sentiments though.

Personally I've seen some much, MUCH nastier shit go down on other Jazz forums, (Particularly the one on Branford Marsalis' website, long since shut down.) i.e. threats of violence, racial vilification, hacking profiles to do more of the same. So frankly, if a couple of anonymous posters start a shit fight over subjective opinions of fellow musicians, what's all the fuss about? Are we all such sensitive special flowers that we can't deal with a little abuse?

How about a rating system for members? We could award "bastard points" or a similar such system, then, if you wanted you could systematically ignore bastard posts. Then we'd just need an icon representing Iron Guts, and for every 10 bastard points earned an Iron Guts icon would appear in your profile beside each post. I suggest a pic of Tinky's bum for the icon, or even a trumpet would do (all trumpeters are bastards, right?).
