I thought it was an interesting read...............an odd touch though, running a pic of Gary Giddins on an interview with John Shand. Bit like running a pic of Scott Tinkler on an interview with Iron Guts.
Oh, wait.........

Not only does he ignore the music that people like Wayne Shorter are creating now (as far as i'm concerned, some of the most innovative music heard since the 60's), he goes and mentions Jan Garbarek as a little innovative - Most of his music is just one small step away from the shit you'd hear in elavators at Myer. John Shand is stuck in the past. Can I ask, if he says he would rather not waste space on promoting an average record (whether through a negative review or not) can we not waste the same space on an average reviewer? Too many reviewers sit on their high horses and look down on musicians struggling to develop their artform and survive, while they sit in their nice little offices and sip tea (or was that a gin and tonic in that cheesy photo of Gary looking like one of those businessman jazz fans who gets drunk and talks over the music?) and want you to kiss their asses for mentioning your record. Get real - Without musicians, music reviewers are unemployed. You should be kissing our asses!

Ha, excellent, such poetry to my ears. ( no offense aj, we love you,,, you give me good reviews )
Mim, there's not much of the country that shouldn't. ( or hasn't )
I do hate the idea that space was wasted on someone who doesn't create music. I know they do do interviews on there with musicians but there are plenty more they could/should be doing ahead of this.

I know they do do interviews on there with musicians but there are plenty more they could/should be doing ahead of this. Guts are you saying www.jazz.org.au should be ABOUT musicians or a resource FOR musicians? At the launch of the website at Wang a few year's ago, we heard that the site was created and funded by the Oz Council as a way to promote Australian jazz by providing a kind of myspace/database resource so musicians and promoters etc would have an online presence at no charge to the individual. It's been up to the musicians to supply their own content, but years later there are very large gaps on that site in terms of musicians details. People either don't know about it or don't think it's worthwhile putting their contact details up. The site has since morphed into more of an online mag. I understand the site supports Australian jazz by any means necessary and is still trying to do that. As many provide content to that site in order to support Australian jazz free of charge (including me) I'm very interested to know what other things you and other musicians think the site should be doing? Ronny Ferella canvassed ideas for the panel on the site at last year's Wang but I have no idea what came out of that. Be happy for anyone to fill me in on that one or hear other ways musicians would like to use that site please?

V, I think on the most part the site is good, I check it regularly and do read the articles etc. It's all pretty soft on as far as interviews go. Maybe I could Interview some people and get it published on there? I will not review, thats for sure. FOR and ABOUT is cool. If it's about us it's for us and visa versa. Actually, that would be a good way to go, musicians interviewing other muso's! We know the things to ask and can get to some nitty gritty.

Muso's interviewing muso's...now that is a great idea. A great idea but not entirely unheard of here. For example, some years back I interviewed Peter Knight for "Drum Media "in Sydney. There may be more coming. Oh by the way, what do you mean muso's? Muso's what?

Apostrophes can also be used to indicate omission of letters. Seeing as muso's is short for musicians, I believe it's acccepable.
