I am enjoying reading about musicians interviewing musicians, so I can't wait for an actual interview!

Miriam, I am enjoying reading about musicians interviewing musicians, so I can't wait for an actual interview! Crikey! May I just say that this is just about my proudest moment... it has been a dream of mine to post a hot topic on this forum! Thanks Mark for the opportunity ... and if I was already upset that I missed a grouse gig, just imagine how I feel after reading those reviews. Bugger! The interviews, by the way, will involve conversation that will be more or less guided by a set of 'framing' questions. Then transcription, then editing then signoff by both / all parties then publication. I expect that some interviews will veer off into life, others will veer off into technicalities... the musicians will be briefed (and reminded if they veer too far into technical territory) about keeping engaged with some of the more general readership... smooth sucking up won't be published (I've already had to scrap an interview that had too much of that... it's a tendency). I love these types of artist / musician / writer interviews as a reader. Insights arise that are only possible with fellow practitioners. Some specialist information is always welcome, but what engages me and others terrifically well is the wider stuff, the 'life' stuff. The approach to playing, the philosophies that develop, the frustrations, highs etc. Ink on the boots stories are good too! Depending on the interview, those bits will stay in, but there will be some interviews where those things would get in the way. You have to be a good editor to make these things work... luckily I have access to a couple of those!

Not to mention when they veer off into discussion about golf!

if this one is a bit too 'in Melbourne' Mark, check out Eug's Myspace... Not at all. I'm of course aware of Eugene's music. The great Melbourne jazz players mentioned here regularly are all national figures. It was more in relation to what could only be described as a fetishistic tribute to his least favourite instrument on his myspace ...and hence my fetishistic desire to see him interview ten of its proponents.. seriously -

I just read Shand's book, really nice to read about Mark, Phil Treloar, Stinky etc ... Great to have something in print about 'the music' as apposed to just internet bios scattered eveywhere ... have you ever tried trying to get info on Mark or Phil (or a host of other greats) on the internet? There isn't much available ...

I thought the whole stream was relating to musicians interviewing musicians about golf! Isn't it? Q: How do you count out crotchets? A: I usually say "tee tee tee tee". Q: And once you get up to 18, what happens then? A: There's a rest for a bar, or is that a bar for a rest?

As an example of musicians interviewing musicians, I enjoyed Mark Isaacs' interview with Chick Corea (still online at www.jazz.org.au/features/340) and while there was much left unasked there is still plenty that shows that a musician interviewing another musician can lead to a conversation out of reach to most career journalists (although the 100-word question followed by the one-word answer must be common). And given her track record I for one have every faith in Miriam's editing prowess in getting the best out of the situation, and both participants. I look forward to the outcome - some highly attractive suggestions above!

Unfortunately Miriam, all the pages of this topic prove without doubt why musicians interviewing musicians is of no artistic or literary merit. Pathetic actually.

Ah but jec, you read on... yeah jec, you read five pages so there! (ner ner ner ner ner) gotcha! While I'm here I'll just say that Steve Mags gig last night with Eugene, Dave Beck and Frank Disario was bloody fantastic! Gouldy was pretty good too for an old geezer.
