Your next question; How do you feel about the direction of tertiary education in relation to improvised music in Australia? See, that's where it falls down. You're a musician whom I trust, so I'd tell you all about that, provided everyone weren't reading what I said. For my opinion to be plausible, I'd have to give examples, and then I'd risk offending people. If my reply were honest and then published here, or in extempore, or wherever, it'd be too much trouble to deal with everyone getting up to tell me what a twunt I am. So in response to that particular question I choose: 'pass'.

Too small a scene. If we were in America we could say whatever the hell we wanted because there's 300 million people so none of us would ever meet in person, or do a gig together, or even be in the same city.
I think the best way to make improvised music in Australia is to avoid tertiary education altogether and just seek out the musicians instead. It seems like a Bachelor of Music won't be enough to get you a teaching job much longer anyway so whats the point?

Damn them's harsh words, can't argue though.
The only reason to improve it would be to make the teaching experience more pleasurable, no chance of surviving off gigs hey?

Without wanting to hijack this thread, I'd just like to say, regarding tertiary education, that it's not for everyone. For some people, it's a great path to go down, and gives them what they need without stifling them, but for others, it's clearly not the way to go.
