Mmmm, boots.
What do Arturo Sandoval, Mike Stern, John Patitiucci and Greg Hutchinson have in common? None of them could make Arturo's album "Swingin'" actually swing. Thankfully the Sandoval abomination was followed by Sam&Dave. Gotta love Al Jackson's backbeat.
On to "R" now. Red Hot Chilli Peppers this morning (back when they were good), and right now Red Fish Blue.

Bebop day today. Bud Powell followed by Charlie Parker. On Parker compilation including some "Parker with Strings" - hard to know who to feel sorry for; the arranger and string players for sounding so naff, or Parker for stooping so low.

Can we change this thread to "What is AliMcG Listening to?"
...be careful, alot of people LOVE that Parker record. He plays his arse off. I guess you can't tell because you're a drummer...

I never said Parker played bad - that was my whole point, his kick-arse playing makes everything else look pretty shit.
Just finished an Olodum album (even wore my hat Captain!). A little on the try-hard samba-pop side of their repetoire and a little over-produced for my liking. Next up - the Soggy Bottom Boys.

Now onto "N" - this is the furthest I've ever been. Usually I give up by now, but this time I've been very disciplined. Coming up Clara Nunes and the New Birth Brass Band. Not together obviously. Imagine that, Clara Nunes singing second line hits in Portuguese.
Although N would seem to be close to a half-way point, alas that is not the case. I have many more CDs in A-M than N-Z. Then there's the vinyl collection to wade through...

I'm newish here, but seems to me so many people are so obsessed with The Necks but never really have anything to say about them, except the odd sarcastic comment. Do they really challenge/offend/rille/'hit a nerve' SO much.....?..? They seem like a pretty good band.... breaking barriers...kinda successful... bringing the message to the people... opening minds and ears to this music (like I imagined everyone wanted..) Whats wrong with The Necks and their success?

You must quite new not to just here but bulletin boards in general. Being obsessed about things but having little to say about them is generally where it's at.
