Opposite ends of the bass playing spectrum today. Started off with my favourite Mingus, "Changes Two," and have just now had a Marcus Miller album that lived up to its $2 price tag. Coming up next - The Meters.

Pierre Dørge & New Jungle Orchestra, @ Melba Hall. Best gig I've been to all year. I would probably be listening to them now if they hadn't sold out of CDs.

A very disappointing Curtis album this morning - Live at Ronnie Scots. The band just doesn't do him justice. Dreadful synth sounds and a drum sound with no earthiness or grit. Right now we're on early 70s Curtis. Up next, Curtis Live (makes the Ronnie Scot recording sound even worse).

Finally finisihed "M" with the last of the music of the Marsalis clan (or the first, depending on how you look at it). Today Los Van Van, tomorrow Edu Lobo.

Into "K", starting with one of the first CDs I owned (I'm pretty sure it was the 3rd), Kings of Soul. Unfortunately disc 2 is missing (Poggo, do you still have it?), but had disc 1 this morning with Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, and some very disappointing Brook Benton. The missing disc has Sam&Dave, Lloyd Price, Ben E. King, Percy Sledge and James Brown. The James Brown tunes were Hot Pants and Sex Machine (the April 1970 version with Jabo and Bootsy), which are still my favourite James Brown recordings. Next up is the 2nd CD I ever owned, Carole King's Tapestry. I won't tell you what the first CD I owned was, but a bottle of red to who ever can correctly guess.
Regards,
Rumplestiltskin.
