Weir u want Wang Turned 2 one of the 'jazz' festivals where they hire Rod Stewart and Elton John as the main acts? ...quote] If you can equate Rod Stewart and Elton Joan with the greats of Dixie Rock, then you're even more fucked up than I am Kenny it is noted that you avoided answering the question put to you by UB. Clever move. Now back to the thread: Adrian, since you are too stingy to spend most of your budget hiring Jessica Williams for Wang I am giving up lobbying on her part, even though Ms Williams is acknowledged by anyone with a brain, as one the greatest living jazz pianists, who will probably retire soon anyway. Pity al those Australian young pianists will never get to see her live. Oh well. Instead, I am shifting my lobbying to a return to Wangaratta of the original line up of IshIsh, please? TownHall or Playhouse please (forget the other venues, yuck). On the subject of Wangaratta, some of my punter pals and I (you know, those of us who actualy pay to go) reckon it would be helpful if there could be some indication in the big program if the ensembles are going to play exactly the same set for the whole festival. Yes, we're talking about improvised music, but it may help to make that vital decision when there are several bands you want to see, all on at once.

I understand what you're saying about repetition of setlists (even where the performance of a song can vary significantly from one set to the next).............but what do you think the chances are of getting bandleaders to advise setlists a month out from the gig ? Even if they did, of course they'd probably change their minds on the day (or night).

Seriously, over the years I have made many, many Wangaratta suggestions to AJ - ranging from the serious and practical to the outrageously selfish and absurd.
And he's ignored every single one of them.
So I'm more than happy to let him go on his merry way.
Besides which, as I've pointed out elsewhere, the highlights for me are frequently provided by Australians, and there's always a stack of 'em.

Jazz is a Creche for tin men(horn players ) who need to keep a form of music alive which allows them to participate. Thats why they build walls of opinion around it and seem to have a distinct Idea about what it actually is:
One big undisciplined Cadenza

AJ! call ronnie and instruct him that the band IS getting back together.
he'll listen to you. he's not fucked. not completely.

An Austage reunion sounds like fun Vicki. It would need a stage manager though.....a man well-versed in the skills and diplomacy needed to organise gigs at a bigtime festival.......there can only be one choice.............
Would Ronny get the band back together if I told him he was on a mission from God ?
